I was told to put a handful of grass or similar for the bees to land on if water was in short supply and you needed to lay on a supply. The marbles would work too, as would pebbles. Don't think the sugar water is a good idea though.

Would agree with you on that Jamanda. Bees are usually quite intelligent when it comes to water gathering and tend to congregate on vegetation floating on water or pick the water up from mud, but the marbles idea is very good if you put out water. Sugar water is a feed, and you want to put that on directly so it goes in quickly. Think all the illustration would do would provide a good place for bugs and fungi to grow.
