Despite the focus on price, however, a hefty 41% also say they aim to buy more locally-produced foods, with 10% planning to shop more in farm shops and farmersï¿½ markets.

ï¿½Although shoppers are looking for value, they are still interested in maintaining their values and are prepared to pay for this,ï¿½ said Joanne Denney-Finch, chief executive of IGD, which provides research and business support to major retailers and manufacturers.

ï¿½Nearly half of shoppers (49%) say supporting local or British products is important to them when choosing what groceries to buy. But shoppers in some parts of Britain are more focused on price: those in Scotland are the most likely of any region to focus on saving on money in the year ahead.ï¿½

In the local paper yesterday, sainsbury's have been given permission to have a supermarket in wadebridge. (We already have a Tesco, a COOP and a LIDL)

I wish they'd surveyed me - I'm going to start shopping in Lidl because they stock Mackies honeycomb ice cream, whereas Waitrose & the coop only have it in plain!

Some people think "local" means going to the medium sized Tesco down the road instead of the mega-huge one 30 miles away . Same mentality thinks that "cooking from scratch" means opening a jar and cooking some pasta instead of microwaving a ready meal .
