Another daft question from me. If you have access to the water, is it better to fish when the tide is coming in or can you fish at anyold time?

The idea is to fish the tide up, upto high tide and then for a hour or so after high tide.

Ah yes, but why? Do the fish only feed on an incoming tide? Or do they feed all the time.?

As the tide comes in the fish follow it up to eat the various goodies on offer as the shoreline is covered by water.

Some of the locals have a fishing method called "Night-lining". During the spring tides, at low tide (often at night apparently) they go to the waters edge ram a stick deep into the sand and attach a length of fishing line with baited hooks. At the following low tide they retrieve their catch. A fisherman once told me that in the good old days, in winter, you could catch three or four cod in one go. These days its mainly flounders and dog-fish (aka "Rock Salmon"

)

I may give that a go Chris. I shall be about 1 mile from a tidal estuary so it should be easy enough to arrange.

generaly you would fish for four hours up and two hours down.but local conditions weather tides terrain all have an effect on what and when it`s caught.for instance some places only fish on the drop and others the opposite.also some places fish at high water and some only at low.
