Does anyone know where I can purchase 45gallon plastic barrels to keep my sterilising solutions in for home brewing, must be food grade?

Thanks
David

I've seen them for sale at agricultural food suppliers - the one where I buy my chicken and rabbit food sells them, as does the cash and carry pet place near Yeovil. Thyea re sometimes advertised in local/yellow free ads papers as well.

45 gallons would be ideal, but anything in the region of 30gallons and upwards would do.

do not do this sort of size in stock, but Kne the owner is a big batch maker himself and might be able to help, he is very firendly.

I know Jack's in colchester used to sell big plastic barrels for people to use as waterbutts - they had been used to transport orange juice concentrate, so I'd imgaine they were food grade. they were very cheap - about a fiver I think, but this was a few years ago, and I don't know where you are!

Someone still local might know if they still do them and how much for.

I've heard of the juice containers before...I think it was in Shooting Times but there are so many of them I'm not going to look through them for you.

Definitely worth some searching on Google though for juice barrels etc (hmm, switch off the adult options first ); I remember they were supposed to be cheap although I think they were being used as feeders.

I've seen some 'mango chutney' 45 gallon plastic barrels that would be ideal, in my dad's shed- I'll ask him where he got them.

I think mango chutney was in the ones I was talking about above. Otherwise it is usually lemon or orange juice in them. they ae not difficult to come by really, and they do make good water butts and chicken food containers as well. Some come complete with a metal locking ring that goes around the rim.
