I do not think we put our best foot forward with the "General" forum category at the top, people flip through web sites when surfing and you need to get them hooked in the first few lines of the page.

So what should be the top forum category?

Looks better, I think. It shows off the more attractive/content richer bits of the forums. Not that the finance etc bits aren't important, but they don't grab most people's eyes.

Only just noticed this thread - but noticed the rearrangement of the forums the moment I logged in. Definitely much better, though I don't think it was bad to have had the other bits near the top to begin with as people were trying to find out what it was all about.

Only other suggestion is that this particular section "Site Guidelines, Announcements etc) should be a little more prominent within its section, as peopl might turn up, think hmmm interesting site...wonder if I can ask a question/join in etc and having this more visible might make it look more friendly?

I wonder if we should create a new section with just the Site guide line forum in it and put it right at the top?

Not sure, I do rather like the "concrete" stuff near the top (the projects etc).

hence the idea of just a single forum in the new category so we lose a minimum of the concrete stuff. Not certain myself on this one.

I will try tomorrow. It will need a little thought and I am also tired.

Could you put up a new section at the top called 'Introduction' say. Shove in the reasons for the existence of the site, a bit about its ethos, and the FAQ. Oh, and the mission statement. Then lock it.
