Hi All.
I wondered if anyone had grown hybrid poplar ? Apparently it is very fast growing but I wonder if it suckers and do the roots cause massive problems. I know the roots will go for water but I am more concerned that new growth will spring up everywhere from the roots.
Has anyone used it for firewood ?
I have some cuttings that I could plant but dont want to cause myself problems for the future.
Any advise would be good.

I've not heard about poplars sending out runners, so you should be OK.

Poplar is well known for suckering from the base or roots, so they can send up new shoots from quite a distance.

I've no experience with the hybrid ones but a bit of googling suggests at least some still produce suckers, perhaps asking on Arbtalk or somewhere similar will produce a better answer.

big poplars are ace to climb and rather pretty but horrid to dismantle near a house ,the roots are as big as the upstairs bit ,how far away ,bout a hour away

My old cricket ground had humungus poplars on two sides of it and they never threw out any suckers. They were planted to stop the cricket ball from going into the canal.
