Got a broody hen at the moment. She's been sitting for over a week and I thought she would have broken it by now but if anything she seems to be getting even more determined to sit. I literally have to fight her to collect the eggs each day now. And she's getting quite ferocious. I don't want more chick just yet (if at all) so I'm just going to have to persevere and be patient with her.
My neighbour (89) recommended dunking her in a bucket of water but I don't think I'll be doing that........yet

She's only just started getting comfy if she's been there a week. Ours don't tend to think about budging for at least a month or more. They also make a fair amount of noise and puff their feathers up if you try and move them. Bless 'em.

From what I can gather most of the ways to stop them involves cooling them down and stopping them from nesting. So you get anything from throwing them off the nest; putting them in their own run with no nest box; putting them in a cage; suspending them over water ( ); to dunking them in water.

Last year I resorted to bathing them in a few inches of water, each time they wanted to sit they got a bit wet. Not sure if it helped.

bathing them is no good, dip her right in and hold her there, not with her head under, for a few seconds. You will lower her temperature and this helps take away the urge.
