a Weasel. I assume, there will be other weasels in the vicinity? Do I need to be worried about the chickens?

I thought they each have huge areas that they defend viciously against all comers and only occasionally meet up with other weasels where the territories touch in order to make more weasels. They definitely have a pattern, I had one that seemed to spend a few nights every couple of months, then move on. Horrid things .

I think it was a juvenile weasel, so I am assuming mummy weasel is somewhere near. It had a huge set of teeth on it.

at this time of year they prefer young rabbit to chooks

it is a brave weasel that takes on an adult chook flock but it has been known especially in winter and they will regard chicks as a tasty lunch once they drag them home.

they do tend to try to carry the shopping which gives a prey limit of around a kilo over flat ground ,obstacles reduce the amount they can carry /drag

sometimes they will kill a big thing and drink the blood,nibble a quick snack and leave but they prefer to eat moderately portable things in private

ps they can get through a wedding ring so weasel proof is serious thought and good choice of materials

Well, I'd be a bit worried about our 2 little bantams and the 2 hybrids, as they are all quite light.

A colleague once built a huge enclosure to study the behaviour of wild Rabbits. He kept on needing to add extra security levels as the local carnivores found ways in. I believe the Weasels set up home in one of the nicely built Rabbit homes inside the perimeter.

Weasels climb very well. I once caught one in a rat-trap set in the roof void of my single storey kitchen. They happily raid bird nest boxes high in trees.

laser initiated claymores set for tiny things might work but they would need to be quite rapid response
