Hi folks, I managed to spill some cooking oil on a white cotton top the other day, can anyone tell me what's the best way to get rid of it please? Thanks

You could try lemon juice for starters, failing that - and if the top is 'strong enough' to take the abuse, borax or washing soda are both very powerful degreasers. Otherwise you could try massaging in a good dollop of white soap (nothing coloured just in case) , work it really well into the spot with your fingers, then wash as normal. Sometimes one of those will do the trick. Sometimes nothing will shift it (says she with lots of splatters on tops she really shouldn't have been wearing whilst painting/brewing/concocting/playing with mud)

Try ironing it with tissue paper on top and underneath it. With luck, the oil will be taken up by the tissue paper.

Thanks for the replies folks, it's one of my favourite tops so I'll definitely be giving all the suggestions a try. You would think by now that I would have done the sensible thing and bought myself a pinny (that goes for you too, Sal!!)

A good squirt of washing up liquid, and wash as normal.
