Don't you need a lot of kit when you start beek'ing? It seems that everything you want or need to do involves a myriad of kit you don't have yet!

We have just ordered extra supers. I really should sit down and count up exactly how much we have spent so far but then again... maybe I shouldn't bother...

Yep - you've never quite enough - I thought I had enough kit but I've just spent a small fortune buying extra frames and foundation for the swarmy little gits - this weekend will consist of building frames and sorting out hives

This is one of the main reasons I recommend top bar hives.
You could set up 4 for the cost of a conventional national or WBC.

Maybe there is something in TBHs. I find that the things you expect to be the big cost turn out to last for ages so you don't feel too bad about. Thie things that get me are the ones that just creep up on you, frames and foundation being a classic example.

Agree - Ironically I'm planning to move to Warre's vertical TBH's next year but wanted the winter to build the boxes and was going to sell on my spare kit after a successful transition - I don't have room for horizontal TBH's

I planned to build 2 TBHs this year but it hasn't happened yet. Our new supers were delivered today (on Sunday?? ) we'll build those up tomorrow. Spent a mint on frames and foundation recently too.

And then you have all the other little bits and pieces that you need to make life easier, it all adds up, doesn't it?
