Later today I'll be posting up a list of articles to come, and their authors, so do keep an eye out for it and if you've submitted something that's not there, feel free to scream very loudly at me. I don't think I've lost any but you never know.

Hope it'll also be useful for potential new authors to gain inspiration from.

Hi Bugs,

It's Marigold123 from the Money Saving Expert site. Do you still want me to attempt to write something on my toolshed-henhouse conversion? If so, is there anything specific you want me to try to address, and how would you like to receive the article? Do you want it typed/pasted onto a particular thread, emailed as a word doc, or what?

If I have any pics, how do you want those to be uploaded, what format, etc?

If you have admin privileges, can you can get hold of my email to contact me?, (I didn't want it displayed generally), or you can always contact me on the MSE site by pm. I may not log in here every day at the moment, but I usually check MSE, so that may be the best way to get in touch.

I'm enjoying the site so far. I posted one of my long rambles as a guest on a thread about chickens in the back garden, but I'm still not quite sure where everything is at the moment. Glad you pointed me in this direction. Cheers!

Hello Marigold

It's lovely to see you over here and I'm glad you're liking the site so far - from what I've read you even more to tell us that I guessed so I hope you'll get something in return from being here because we've clearly got lots to learn from you.

I'm going to reply to lots of your points in a PM to MSE but this bit's useful for everyone...I'm in the middle of writing a "how best to submit articles" which I'll post up here when it's ready, but the main things to bear in mind are something which can be copied and pasted, without too much formatting if at all possible, and images separately. Most things we can deal with so there are several ways you can submit, just pick the easiest for now -

- go to the "home" link in the left hand menu...log in...and click the "submit news" link
- email it to editor at downsizer.net , preferably pasted in to the email
- send it within a PM to me...you can attach pics to a PM, as well, if you like

Hope this helps for now...definitely do want the toolshed conversion. Measurements, if you can get them, would be a handy guide (even if they're just rough); and pics will be ideal. Also, how do you think it compares to other choices of housing and why did you choose to do it that way?

Maybe other people will have questions too?

Once the article is up, we put links to it in the forums, so people can ask more questions if they want to.

At the moment we have articles ready for up to the beginning of March, so you have plenty of time if you need to!

And thanks again for saying yes - really looking forward to the finished version because what I've read so far has been great!

That's great, it sounds quite easy to get the stuff to you.

I'm very pleased and a bit surprised that people here seem to like what I've written so far. I've always regarded myself as a bit of a waffler. Still, it takes all sorts, and if you're all a bit crazy, at least I shall be in good company! (j/k)

I'm actually rather excited to be doing this for the site. I'm not sure how long it will take me to produce something sensible, but I'll try and make a start today.

I noticed you were discussing the issue of editing, re. search engine hits. I'm assuming from this that I should try to make each heading descriptive of what's in the following section? I hope you'll feel free to edit anything you want anyway, so I guess it doesn't matter that much.

I can measure up and provide dimensions if you like, but I will say at the begining of the article that the only measuring I did during the construction was to make sure that all the bits fitted into what was there already!

It was a very organic project, (ie. sloppy ), with the design developing as I went, and depended entirely on what bits and pieces I was able to scrounge out of skips and from behind people's bins. I guess what I am saying is that this will be an example only of how you can use reclaimed materials and an old, damp, leaky toolshed to make an acceptable chicken house for very little money. Another person's method might well be completely different, depending on what bits and pieces they have collected to use.

Any dimensions given will only be a rough guide, to help provide a clearer picture of what I actually did, and shouldn't be interpreted as actual instructions. Most people out there who are considering doing a shed-conversion will probably be far more experienced in DIY than me, anyway, and may well be able to think of better ways of doing things. However, it might be useful for other novices, if they want to avoid some of the pitfalls and mistakes I made in my first attempt.

Having said that, the chooks seem to like it, despite the odd bent tail feather from having perches rather too close to the shed wall!

We are pretty keen on this sort of thing and appreciate an authors permission to play with the headings. But aise from the spelling we leave things alone unless specifically permitted, as we do like to respect the integrity of what is being said, and the right of our authors not to have their work messed with.
