Did more googling... hadn't turned something up before..
Ribes odoratum
Botanical details
Family
Grossulariaceae
Native to the UK
No
Foliage
Deciduous
Habit
Bushy
Genus
Ribes can be deciduous or evergreen shrubs, sometimes spiny, with simple, usually palmately lobed leaves and small tubular or bell-shaped, solitary or racemose flowers borne in spring or summer, followed by juicy, sometimes edible berries

Name status
Correct

Central USA

So it might be edible...but how it turned up in my garden is a mystery!!...as a small seedling and is now a three foot tall bush, and has flowered at last!!

Sometimes things do turn up, often courtesy of birds. We have cultivated raspberries in the woods, but the main area for them is at least half a mile from the nearest house, and unlikely to have been dumped. The birds sit on deer fence, branches etc. and excrete the seed.
