Looking to plant up sections of the hedge where it is thinned out, what hedge plants like a dry sandy soil? The rest of the hedge is very mature hawthorn and a few other ones I don't know, wouldn't mind putting some fruit trees in there too while I am at it, any suggestions.

Gorse (scented flowers)
Broom
(not fruit, but they would do well)
