the green ban is not that relevent, it corresponds much more to work on the site than people visiting, you see how high it is for October! where we were only going for 3 days!

In rough terms 50% per month which is the sort of exponential figure that sees us taking over Microsoft some time next year So i think it is safe to assume growth will begin to slow down at some point More to the point I think that 3 months in, the continued growth places us more firmly on the map as a site that is going somewhere jema

alexa stats The Alexa stats are all over the place, the system only really gets accurate stats for top 100,000 sites and is heavily biased towards sites that use there toolbar But even here as you see, we have some remarkably high readings jema

Just a minor point I forgot to mention The graph does not include the forums, the forums get about twice the traffic as the main site. jema

Stats can be very interesting. Just found out that someone from Houston, Texas with a Halliburton ISP has found my site by doing a msn search for Loompanics, and found me on the 14th page of his/her search results! So links on your pages can work in reverse. I wonder, will the CIA knock on my door soon (the link was on the 'survival' page to a subversive publisher, and Halliburton is connected with Bush....)?
But they can also be misleading. When I looked up who spent nearly three hours on my site, I discovered it was most likely someone I know who has broadband, and probably logged on, had a brief look at the page, and then left it in the background whilst doing something else. But, you do get a pretty good rough idea, and quite a kick, when someone from Pakistan or some other remote place found you. And its fascinating to see the exponentil growth. Statscount (along with this forum) is on my fav list for daily checks (hourely...1/2 hourely....)

To be tediously technical, this would not happen quite like this. The web is "connectionless" once you have pulled a web page you make no further contact with the server.

Stats packages count "visits" by logging the "fingerprint" of a requester, and comparing it with fingerprints in say the previous 15 minutes. If no match is found a second visit is recorded.

For a 3 hour period to be recorded, then either the stats package looks back a long time to merge visits, or they were at least occasionally clicking. The only exception to this would be pages that have a meta refresh tag and so automatically refresh themselves.
