An interesting series, this episode obviously has great interest for me, my mum and dad were refugees from the Indian side

Radio 4 Monday 20:00 Sleeping with the Enemy
1/3 Partition

The first in a new series relating more untold stories of love, hate, betrayal and exploitation from around the world.

In the bloody carnage that accompanied the Partition of India in 1947, women - Hindus, Sikhs and Muslims - were the most vulnerable. As the region of Punjab fragmented along religious lines, women were abducted in their thousands by the 'enemy' community. Many were forcibly converted and had children.

Linda Pressly hears the moving testimony of the women who survived.

Could be interesting, there is a lot of hidden history from that era.

Did you know that Hitler had an Indian regiment in the second world war? people who thought presumably that Hitler was preferable to the British empire A lot of the stuff around this is I gather still classified, making you wonder what prominent figures had links.

It was one of the leaders of the Indian independence movement, like you say not a lot is known about it. Fascinating, as is the extreme difficulty I had in getting casualty figures for the Indian army in WWI & II earlier this year (following the BNP anti muslim broadcast)
