Spring is deciding to come in fits and starts as usual. The sap is starting to rise in the birch we are cutting as some of the stumps left are starting to bleed, so now might be the time to tap for birch juice. It hasn't got to the top yet, so if we are lucky we have one or two weeks still to cut.

Saw crocus in flower yesterday and there are some early daffodils. Robins have been pairing up for a while, but don't think they have started nesting yet.

Plenty of crocus out in flower around our way as well MR. No daffs flowering yet but there are plenty poking through, as well as the bluebells in our front garden.

I should be able to see my lawn again after tonight's warm rain, and a very warm day tomorrow. But we're expected more snow on Friday.
#falsespring is springing here. But mid season is around the corner. Maple sugarers have started boiling sap. I expect another month before crocuses

A lot more flowers here now. Don't know if we will be able to get to the birch this week as today is a clearing up day; several trees down over a public footpath and our main access track. Tomorrow and Friday I think are firewood days, so hopefully get at least the birch we cut last year and perhaps a bit more. May not be much more time left. We still have hazel coppice to cut and we have orders for charcoal too.

There are a lot of prunus in flower now; mainly mirabelle plum. They were planted on the other side to the road to us, but there are some blackthorn opposite us and they are not yet in flower. The early spring flowers are lovely now.

I haven't been in that part of the woods for over a week, but there was no sign of one elder near the hedge we replanted showing any signs then. I hope to be able to get out there some time this week. The quince in the garden is showing green in the buds, but hasn't moved much in the past week.

those sorts of shoots and stem tips on elder make a rather good "cold tea" as a burn salve

steep in boiling water until cold, sieve, use the liquid on a non-stick bandage, change it twice a day

a classic, tried it, it works

re tried it, same arm(mine) similar burns, part got this , part got "burn cream" from boots

elder is far better

as a "simple", this time of year elder is perfect as a burn salve, not as good through summer but it still works

i have no idea if it can be dried for later use
