Ok, so I've had my pitch confirmed for Wonderwool in May, I have a 2m wide by 3m deep pitch and I opted to bring my own chair and tables to keep the costs down. So I now need ideas on how to get the best out of the space. I need to leave room at the back for chairs for the both of us, so I'm guessing thats going to take up a 2m wide by 1m space leaving me with a 2m x2m trading area.

Any brilliant ideas on the most effective layout of tables? I'll thinking I'll be using reinforced decorating tables or similar unless we find time to rig up some trestles. I think we can do something more imaginative than just a table across the front, but is a basic L shape too boring and would I be able to fit potentia buyers in if we tried something different? Will be thinking in terms of going up with shelving as well as just spreading goods out on tables, and a lot of the hats will be on cunningly madre hatstands (tall wrought iron candlestics fitted out with a wooden cap to turn them into hatstands!), but we'll have some of Gareths woodwork and baskets of wool as well as various small items to show off.

what about trellis at both ends, to form the shelf ends, that can have hats and things hung off them.

Lights?

A pole could be suspended form the trellis too, across the top, to give stability.

Are you lucky enough to be on a corner? That really can make the most of your space, but even if not, can you do something more open than the table at the front thing? Table at the back with sides?

U shape on 2x3m will be too tight, L shape sounds better. I assume you're going to have rain protection (top and sides)?

Noo noo... You may well not have been to the Royal Welsh Showground: plenty of big buildings such as the South Glamorgan Hall where a lot of the stalls are put. You weren't to know! There are outside stalls, but they're mainly burger vans, sundriesmen etc.

What about a short holiday over this way, Tahir?

Would really love to but we've got to go to Hampshire to see Uncle Ted who's pretty terminal and I've been told we're going to Spain for a week in May, any other time off I get will be spent on the ranch witha bit of luck (Wife willing)

Ah well, Home on the Range is the best holiday there is, IMHO

I hate going anywhere for any more than a few hours, hence going to the show for only one day rather than both!

Just wondering whether you can make something of the way supermarkets lay out their aisles when you construct your L-shape ?
AFAI recall, people go in and tend to look to their right first, so if you had the L-shape along the right hand side of the pitch (as you look at the stall from the front) and the back, and you and Gareth sat to the left. Attention-grabbing things at the front of the RH side to draw folk in, and some smaller, cheaper items at the other end of the L at the back, next to you.
Anyone on here know about shop layout / design principles ?

If you use an L shape you could also do demos: spinning, carding whatever... In medieval kit?

some great ideas coming through. This one won't be in costume, trying to guage what the 'real world' makes of our stuff though we will have some of the historical stuff on the stall.

Am taking the hats anyway, as much to find out what 'normal' people think of them as with any expectation of selling any Hoping to do a special couple of pointy ones, all adorned with little sheep and trees as a centrepiece for the stall (all in my copious spare time of course....)

Sally, about this "spare time": it's only a myth! It doesn't actually exist in this reality: there must be a parallel universe full of it to balance out. I often wish I lived there or could get through some kind of wormhole for a break...
