The gluts of local asparagus and strawberries on the market have started. Oh, the hardship.

Strawberry jam first? Or wine? Or ice cream?

What's wrong with sitting outside in the sunshine and working your way through a large bowl of the lovelies?
No processing for me until at least a month into strawberry season. Just eat and eat and eat!!!

Oh, we'll do that too of course But its cheaper buying a box of 'misshapes' on the local market, which is more than we can eat in one go. Besides, its strawberry season in Cambridge, I can always get more to feast on.

In which case I prefer a sorbet/granita to ice-cream. Or perhaps strawberry sauce for pouring over vanilla ice-cream.
And don't forget strawberry curd. And dried strawberries, which are divine.

Although I am rather fond of strawberry wine too.

Dried? Sliced and strung out to dry or put into the dehydrator? Could be a winner, that one

Dehydrator. Chop them in half if they're big. You can faff around dipping them in honey, but that makes the trays all sticky and doesn't really add anything to the end result.
I love 'em. The first one tastes really odd, but then the intense strawberry flavour kicks in and they become very addictive.

Ahhh - time to get the car out for the first time in ages and pootle...

The only UK grown asparagus I can find around here is in M&S The two main markets have it but its all still from south america (as is the stuff in sainsbury...)

But I did get a box of uk grown strawberries last week - sent in the post by a friend on the IOW rofl

Well the fist batch will be jammed (using a cunning 'freezer to pan strawberry jam' method which I think should give a lovely texture), but I'm going to dry some of the next lot. Sounds like a great plan.
