Hi Cab,
You have to use one that specialising in cosmetic certification, I know of about three in this country to my knowledge, though there may be more that are just hiding! Then, you have to write up your recipe as a quantitative formula, attaching chemical safey analysis sheets for each and every ingredients, and demonstrate that it always comes out between a set of known pH values, shelf life, and so on, draw up a product information file to explain exactly how each batch is made, labelled and stored, provide a sample of the labelling so they can check it fits the regulations, and hand over a scary amount of cash. Then they send back a nice official letter saying that in their opinion the product is safe and fit for the purposes stated, and they add any specified limitations. Then I have to write to the Trading Standards people and tell them about my soap, and invite them to come and look at the files or process anytime they want. Its a bit daunting but I'm glad I've had it done. |
