I've just been out to check on IR ducklings and one has cut its neck open. Back of neck down is parted and can see a 15mm square area of inner skin tissue covering neck bone. Do I need vet to examine/stitch?? or do you think it will heal over time? I am concerned becuase they are growing so fast it may never get to heal and maybe attract disease/flys, etc. Dean PS they are only 2 weeks old

Several folk on Acountrylife.com & RC suggested Antiseptic powder, then glueing together with superglue.

By the time I got back, late yesterday afternoon, with superglue, the outer skin/coat had dried against the inner tissue. So have applied antiseptic powder and will keep it in a box in our hall for a couple of days, its really cool, so as to avoid flies. It looks fine today and looks as though it will heal over time.

I think injury was caused by a mother hen with her 8 chicks, as I let them all out in grassed garden at back of house, and noticed that one of the other ducklings has a peck looking mark to its coat/down, but not a deep wound like this one.
I shall ensure that they are all seperated in future, untill they have grown up.

What breed of duck are white with yellow bill and blue eyes?

Not a joke- found a pair tempting fate with foxy at my nans place the other day. Seems odd as it is in the middle of nowhere and we know every one around here with ducks. I think they were dumped. They didn't fly away so we caught them/just picked them up and put them in an ark for the night with a big trug of water and some corn thrown in the water. (wasn't sure if you are meant to soak the corn - their crops were quite empty and didn't want it to swell up?)

They have a huge enclosure in the day which is open topped so they can fly away if they want but have stayed for 6 days now. We do fox proof them at night.

They are a 'no frills type of duck' I suppose mallard style but white. They don't seem to be too upright - just what I would expect a 'normal' duck to be like! (sorry I'm a duck virgin!)

Definatly sounds like an Aylesbury duck, if I can get a photo of mine I will post it.
