Nick Toksvig travels to Druskininkai, a once lively spa town, popular amongst communist party officials and apparatchiks in south west Lithuania. Just across the border is Belarus, a haunting reminder of what Lithuania might have become. Close by is Grutas Park, a theme park dedicated to memorialising the period of Soviet occupation in Lithuania (1945 - 1990). For a modernising country, recently admitted to the European Union, is this a country coming to terms with its past, or cannily facing up to the economic realities of its tourist future?
