The poll about how full is you bin has been really interesting, so I was wondering what you all have left in your bins for the bin men to collect?

We all seem to be really good at reducing, reusing and recycling so what's left?

I,ve just had a look in mine and I have....

meat bones
some fish skin
some macoroni cheese
plastic wrapings from magazines that come through the post
plastic bottle tops
a sticky plaster
plastic yogurt pots
plastic butter tub
old pan scourer
a brillo pad
some cotton buds
some cotton wool
2 batteries from OHs walkman

All kinds of stuff!

At the moment I'm trying to sort out green waste, the worms have perked up a bit now its stopped snowing, so they're helping out, but the compost bin is full (hopefully of actual compost! its been in there for years) so I plan to empty that on to the veg patch, when I finished digging it over.

I suspect I could half our bin contents by composting all the green stuff, and intend (hmmmm!) to make another worm bin later this year. Either that or get a rabbit!

What's left is mostly plastic packaging and dog food tins, which I am too lazy to wash up (or rather to nag himself to wash up. He's only just got the hang of recycling plastic, so I have to go easy on him!) and mysterious stuff that other people must put it in, cos I certainly don't fill it up!

i imagine it will be plastic packaging for most people.most of us are now recycling as much as we can but there are always the odd bits of things you just cant recucle in the normal way....

how do you get rid of the bones and things anyway without burying them (or retrieving them when the dog does) and odd bits of food that havne't been eaten and can't go onto a compost heap have to go somewhere...........

have found a use for my plastic milk bottles for the present as i have taken a leaf from the man that posted a while ago and am using them as plant pots so don't have to buy anymore......
