I say if people want it, let them have it, if they don't then it is only your time you are wasting persuading them. The people who are interested will be keen to have their ads updated & by all means give them a presence on Downsizer, but be careful not to be pushing people into having an ad here if they really don't want one, as Downsizer could get a reputation for being a bit outdated & 'stale'.

Wise words, I think.

The lass who I was talking to today has been keen on getting a web presence for at least a year, but she just hasn't got onto it. So there's a will, coupled with a big solid dose of inertia.

I meant within the usual guidelines of what we do. Just because someone is not online does not imply a different set of priniciples.

I thought we insisted traders were active members of the site?

Or be the responsibility of a contributor prepared to vouch & stake their own reputation on them?

Very tricky, neither Martin (ART) nor Ged (Chileseeds) are active members, both are decent fellas that are good traders

I think of Downsizer something better than a farmers market- the information exchange between producer & consumer is not limited to the hours of a market though.

Yeah but Martin and Ged just aren't interested in communicating via here. Does that exclude them from having ads?

We broke with my idea that traders needed to be active members almost from the beginning of the site. We just quitely as I see it got pragmatic. As RobR says someones reputation still ends up on the line!

I wouldn't discourage anyone who is decent from advertising here, just providing the balance does not tip & turn us into a 'directory' site.

Who's we and my? The site still insists "All stories and services submitted must be linked to a forum where a members credibility can be judged." That is the line I and some others still stick to.

I seriously think we need to sit down and review our trader policy so we *all* know what we are doing and are about. Then we can amend the site details and FAQs to fit in.

I'm not against the idea of non-members advertising but I do wish we all follow the same guide lines.

I thought this was something that we were going to be discussing imminently?

Yep, but the outcome of that may mean this conversation is meaningless.

We is us as a site who broke that line from the start!

My is Me as I penned that text, as that is how I wanted it and at the time of writing I probably was the sites one member!

But it did not happen that way.
