I've had a resident pheasant in the garden for the last 2 months. As he was seemingly quite a pleasant chap who kept himself to himself most of the time, I decided to condone his presence by naming him 'Murray' (don't ask me why)

Murray liked to spend his time scratching up most of my vegetable patch & consuming the results. It did annoy me a little, but I felt that he was such good company I'd forgive his little transgressions.

Until last night...........I have an area to the rear of the house that I use for logging & splitting firewood. Murray decided that he would sit on the head-high bank beside this area & watch me while I worked away by torchlight. I thought at first that his amusing head-bobbing & funny noises were just his way of congratulating me for a particularly effective axe-swing. As I turned to nod my appreciation for his commendation, he decided to assert his belief that MY garden was actually HIS garden & launched himself into an attack on me!
Now, anyone who's been subjected to an angry pheasant heading towards them at high speed with spurs at the ready will, I feel, completely understand the instinctive reflex action that resulted in the log I was carrying being launched in the very direction that Murray was rapidly approaching from. As both Murray & the log approached each other at speed I became aware that my knowledge of any government acts relating to the 'hunting of game with firewood' could be considered somewhat wanting and that I may very well become the subject of protracted legal discussion as a result of the circumstances under which I found myself.
The evidence hangs in my shed as we speak and my conscience weighs more and more heavily on my shoulders. Should I turn myself in to the relevant authorities?

.................or just casserole the bugger?

That's the one: the only good pheasant is a casseroled pheasant.

Sounds like justifiable pheasanticide to me. No jury would convict.

I like it - two jobs with one log - dinner and fuel!

Or pop down PO, one game licence later and you can claim you lost track of time and no the crime was only logged Sat night?

Actually somehow suspect already in possession of aforementioned gov paperwork??)

I haven't dared get involved in this mafia game thing: I spend too much time on here as it is!

I wonder if I'll find a pheasant on my way from town tomorrow morning? Just fancy a pheasant pudding now.
