you take with you ?
Don't count the clothing that you stand up in and I think that we'd better count guns and the like as cheating.
I know that one or two people on here already do something like this but its always been a day dream that I've harboured.
I've done plenty of camping but this wouldn't be quite the same.
I've even got what I consider to be a suitable location in mind, there's a small trout stream plenty of rabbits and a rocky coast.
You can select the season that you choose to go in and say why.
Have a think about your items and your reason for selecting them and then it might be nice to compare lists.

Have a go ! Are you up for it ?

In no particular order.

1) A good sharp knife
2) A hand axe
3) Waxed matches
4) A big bar of carbolic soap.
5) Fishing line and hooks
6) A saucepan to boil my water and some of my food in.
7) A piece of polythene or tarp for a shelter.

Small roll of wire for snare making
9) Fungi ID book, because I know what a mushroom looks like and then thats it.
10) Luxury item . Sleeping bag.

I'd go at the end of Summer . Sept/ Oct because hopefully it wouldn't be too cold and there would be stuff ripe for picking.

What do you think ? Have I missed any essentials apart from some tinnies and a solar powered fridge ?

I'd go Sept/Oct too, for same reasons, taking tent sleeping bag stove sharp knife axe pan gun etc (or a Bodger to make and lay snares for me) washing up liquid forage bags bottle of malt

If you took a good lurcher I could forget the washing up liquid. The closest I ever got to this was when I use to take my sons fishing at Patterdale for the weekend . We would cook eels and small perch over the fire but then they would cry until I took them for a bar snack ! Softies

After 2 weeks eating only fish, rabbits and fungi you're going to be screaming for some carbohydrates ! I'd amend your list with : Air rifle instead of soap (ever tried snaring a pigeon?) Large bag of brown rice instead of fungi book (don't need a rice identification book!)

Yeah ! I was running short of ideas. I'll trade the book for the rice and take my chances. A few wheatfields in the area that I could nick some carbs from.

The late Eric Newby advocated taking only luxuries, on the basis that some other mug would be bound to have remembered the essentials.

On this basis I'd select :

1. Gin
2. Vermouth
3. Olives
4. Cashew nuts
5. Hammock
6. Radio for rugby/cricket results
7. Channel 4 film crew
8. Notebook and pencil for forthcoming book
9. Laptop and mobile phone to update online blog
10. Book by famous explorer to plagiarise

He did mention TV crew, back up crew, make up artists, stylists, butty wagon, lighting and sound engineers didn't he??? You know I never go anywhere without the barest necessities

I suppose I'd choose late summer/early autumn as well. Kit in descending order: Water purifier Decent tough knife Firesteel & tinder Woman Pan set Tent or tarp Air rifle or snare wire Fishing kit First aid kit Luxury item: decent wild food book.
