Funnily enough, I got stung on the head a couple of weeks ago. I scratched the sting out, cursed a little and got on with it. No lumps or bumps appeared. About a week later Mrs F asked what had happened to my head (!) - as there was a lump on it where I'd been stung. I know I'm a slow individual at times, but that's ridiculous Tim

The previous owners of our house kept bees.... they asked if we wanted to keep them... I'm afraid I said "no way"

. The thought of having to watch out for bees whenever we were in the vicinity of the hive did not appeal to me at all, plus having 2 small boys at the time, made it very easy to say no.

To be honest if I was given the opportunity today I would still say no (I'm really scared of bees and wasps). Keeping bees has no attraction whatsoever for me but its great hearing all about how the rest of you are getting on with them though

Congrats on getting your bees.

Last month I had one hive ready and waiting for a swarm of bees (chairman of our club gets called out to swarms). Thanks to the generosity of friends I ended up getting three swarms in a four day period. Luckily I had most of the kit to hand, and we only live about twenty minutes from Thorne's, so was able to buy in the extra.

I had only planned on two hives, but no worries.

Total cost �5. for the petrol of the swarm collector. Nothing for the other two.

Beekeepers seem to be a generous bunch.

Well done you, I'm so jealous, every time one of you gets Bee's, I want to keep some but can't, can you post some photo's. I suffer from severe anaphylactic shock, due to Bee's, Wasp's, Aspirin, and broufen (sp). So keeping the lovely little things is a no no for me.

I'll take my camera tomorrow if you want, to the apairy, and try and get some unusual shots for you. I am on the queen rearing team, and I think we are starting a new batch tomorrow, so it could be interesting.

You said they were going to do it at the apiary rather than NDC, which is very sensible idea. I'm just worried about the time.
