I have found , pdobably like a lot of you, that i need to carry a lot of "odds and sods" in the back of my car, for use on my allotment.
As i work in a factory making corrugated cardboard cases, i through every thing into a box.
Sods law dictates that whatever you want will be at the bottom of the box.
So, I made another carry box,similar that i use for my 'smithing. A sheet of 18"X14"X1/2" ply was cut with 5" high sides with a central divider/carry handle 8" high along the centre, each half being devided into 3 to suit.
Now I've got my nails, staples, clouts, string,pegs and markers divided. Space for my hammer, fencing pliers, screwdrivers, saw, secatuers, trowel, dibbers etc to be kept together with other bits like strimmer and chainsaw oils, greases and spares.
I also bought (and modified to suit) a tool belt for ï¿½2 off the local market to carry bits and bobs to save endless trudges back to the car .

Don't!! You're making me jealous!! I can't wait for my shed to arrive, I am going to be known as the anally retentive shed owner it will be so organised

I use plastic veg. boxes form the shop where I work. We can't get them recycled, and reuse is a better option anyway. I'll accumulate some and bring them to the micro-meet for anyone who wants some.

Sounds very handy, what about securing it? I wouldn't want it coming through the back seat in an accident.

Jonnyboy: my dad had a van accident a few years ago: van slipped in black ice, went over bridge parapet, landed in stream bed upside down. His only injury was a bruise on his neck where his toolbox hit him! Van was a complete write-off, though. Moral is: watch out for black ice and anchor your toolbox!

Will post photo as soon as i've darned the hole in the black cloth , and bought some more magnesium for the flash ! (or when i can get one of me kids to do it "digically"
I've got a welder, argon , oxy-acetylene bottles, toolchest, trolley jack, spare wheel in the back of my motor. If i had a choice, i think i would prefer to be hit by the "tidy box"as its probably the lightest !
(should have it all strapped down, sensibly)

Where we used to live we bought a shed (ï¿½10 buyer dismantles and collects) and set it up by the outside loo.The neighbours who were constantly watching activities throughout the 2 years we lived there,watched as we set up shelves and fixed jars underneath for screws and racks on the walls etc and could be heard commenting loudly that we were going to start up a shop and theyd be onto the council

Our present shed is set up for our bikes and has filing cabinets all along one wall for all the bits and bobs.

We used to have one of those satchel things in the car that secures with press studs to the boot but we changed cars so often it was a pain to keep fixing it in.

I took some photo's today!....Of the tidy box, my shed, my workshop & the back of my Range Rover. Used my daughters "digical" camera. As soon as i find out how to post them as j-pegs under 256KB I will show you. Thinks..............must try and get out more. Dave

Untidy, maybe, but pretty good, eh? Can I get the old chap to make a few? I'm sure they'd sell well! Do you want royalties? Can I offer marmalade/jam/chutney?

Got any ideas for wellies, my car boot is very quickly becoming filled with mud, as the carrier bags for all six pairs of wellies cant cope

Buy a Land Rover or Range Rover, they SHOULD be full of muddy boots ! You would need a fair size box for 6 pairs...... not practical Have to give this some thought......
