Lettuce can act as a mild laxative, but given only occasionally will do no harm .Finely chopped chives are great for chicks.
I agree that salt should never be added to poultry rations. It is bad for them.
I hang green stuff (cabbage, cauli, sprout tops etc) up to give them something to peck at when they are in their winter quarters,occasionally I give grated swede or carrots too, but during spring and summer ,when there is so much natural greenery for them to peck at , I rarely bother. Mine are in moveable arks so they get fresh ground as soon as the area they are on looks a little bare.
Boiled spud etc can be a bit too fattening if given often, as can pasta but as a treat it will do no harm. I know it is ludicrous that you can't feed meat scraps when they are naturally omniverous and love worms , and bugs etc and mine have even eaten mice! But regs are regs, so if you intend to sell ,just don't feed meat! |
