mind swinging by dunoon and getting rid of the deer in my mil's garden?
there's a wannabe land tycoon that owns a HUGE holiday caravan site. the back end of this site is quite near to mil's house and he's been illegally chopping down and clearing trees to make room for more caravans (he actually boasts that the �5000 fine was the best money he ever spent )
needless to say this is driving the deer out of the woodlands and into everyones gardens. doesn't help that some eejits insist on feeding the deer! last thing they need is the deer thinking they can get a free handout and STAYING there.
poor mil, she worked so hard on that garden. her land was originally a house next door to a playground that was completely concreted over. her and my late fil had to hire a jackhammer (pneumatic drill?) to break it all up and then hire a lot of help to remove the stuff (fil was nearly 70 when he was doing this all ) so she really has worked from scratch on this. it's quite lovely as long as she can keep the deer away.
in the last 18 months she's lost her husband and both her parents so the garden is the last thing she really loves that she has close to her
Ooh, that makes me angry. Is it impractical (I can understand why it might be) to get together with the less pathetically soppy neighbours and at the very least force Mr Tycoon to pay up for some serious fencing (and I have no idea...no ideer, boom boom) what fencing would work but I am sure there is some)?
ohhhhhh come on... you can just strap them to the luggage rack on the roof of your car when you go home mil is very nice and would let you stay the night and wouldn't even want any of the meat

I think I will collect some snails tomorrow and start the purging process ready for the bank holiday.
I'll add the snails to a bucket with dandelion leaves and some lettuce if I have any, Ray Mears also recommends wild garlic but I don't have any to hand at the moment. I'll add a little saucer of water and keep some fine mesh over the top of the bucket to stop them escaping. I'll keep the little dinner guests in the shade for the week for at least 5 days, some people say upto 2 weeks but I'll see how they go.
