I've just bought one of these to catch escaped guinea pigs, might give it a go on the squirrels.

I've got something very similar and managed to catch rats, which I bought it for, a squirrel and several other animals which were quickly released including a couple of mating toads.

I've found attaching some bait to the end of the trap as well as the trigger helps, some rats manage to eat the trigger bait without setting the thing off but seem to trigger it when eating the bait at the back.
