Been watching one of my Giant Puffball sites over the last few days as a couple of puffballs have been steadily getting larger. Picked one today - yummy!
Unfortunately got to go away for a week so the second one will have to turn into spores. Hey ho - I suppose abstinence is good for the soul & maybe more Giant Puffball's in the future

I love puff balls. I like to slice them and fry them in bacon fat or scoop out the middle and fill with mild curried mince and bake. Drooling now

Slice & fried in bacon fat (aka john Ewright's Puffburger - yummy). Like the sound of curried mince though.

Sliced & fried in herby butter or dried & added to winter stews ( drying concentrates the flavour.

Not found any in somerset this year though.

JP you must try it, it is superb mate. Don't over do it with the curry or it ruins it. I prefer lambs mince as it has more moisture and flavour. I must admit my absolute favourite was when I lived well out in the sticks. I would go out very early in the morning and take the air rifle with me. I would shoot a half grown bunny, pick a puffball and head home for brekkie. We had a rayburn at the time which just made it that much better. I would put a frying pan on the rayburn and with a knob of lard, some chopped onions and garlic, I would fry the saddle and the back legs of the young rabbit. Into the pan I would put some fatty bacon and when cooked I would remove it and add the sliced puff ball. It would absorb all the bacon fat and juices from the pan and make a breakfast fit for a king
