Hi,

Shooting season is about to open, and I was wondering if anyone on here knows of any shoots in Berks Bucks or Oxan that might need any beaters fro this season???

Hello Tinks

I hate to direct people away from here, but there's a very good site (an organisation actually - National Organisation of Beaters and Pickers Up) https://nobs.org.uk/ for exactly this kind of thing.

They look quite a friendly bunch. Have you done that kind of thing before?

Tinks, you would be welcome up at our shoot in Cheshire.
What breed of dog do you beat with?

Thanks for the replies. I have checked out NOBS and put my name down!

Wombat, I don't beat with a dog, though I helped pickup last season with a spaniel. Unfortunately the area (other side of Basingstoke) is a bit far really and the ex-keeper I was working with is also an ex-boyfriend, so I'll avoid that one!

I just fancy a bit of the outdoors this winter..........

I can also recommend www.nobs.org.uk I am now one of the Nottinghamshire reps. If you look and like the site buy a car sticker or badge from the shop to support the cause. Or if you feel very generous make a donation
It covers lots, beating, Picking up, dogs, loading, game keeping etc etc
Thanks

Many thanks for the interest in NOBs! I started Nobs in May 05 after being particularly frustrated that there appeared to be no service for Beaters, Pickers Up and Loaders. Let me say from the start, I did not want to create another Organisation but having tried to get the larger organisations to do something and received less than entusiastic response, I started it myself.

NOBs is there as a communication platform to help Beaters, Pickers Up, Loaders, Gamekeepers and Shoot owners all to keep in contact. We also want to encourge youngsters out into the countryside. These days many of whom are on computers, so that's where we have to be! It also helps people, who for very good reasons have drfited away from beating etc, get back into it.

Registration is free at the moment, please do register, as the more we have registered the more we can help people to get back out there.

Since launching on 26 May 05, we have had over 22,000 hits on the site and registered over 3,000 people, we have 80 County Representatives, who will be able to help you.

I hope I have explained at least something about the Organisation and I very much hope you will visit us and we will be able to do something really very positive in the Countyside.
Thanks
Mark

Many thanks for the details Mark, must be a busy time of year for you. I've noticed the odd mention in the Shooting Times over the last few months and hope the site goes well, must get round to registering.

Tinks,
Did you manage to get something sorted? Do let me know at NOBs if you haven't had any luck, I'll get it sorted. Many thanks to those of you that have kindly taken a look. It's been great to help so many people get back out into the Countryside. www.nobs.org.uk

I am delighted to let you know that Wilfred Emmanuel-Jones (The Black Famer) has just become one of our Patrons, which is great news.

Hi
A new FREE Forum and website to liaise between shoots and pickers up, beaters and newcomers to the countryside.
Please take just a few seconds to look and check it out.
https://www.pubs.myfunforum.org
https://www.pubs--pickers-up-beaters-shoots.co.uk

The website will be considerably expanded and is still under development,
Three beaters have already been found places on shoots even though the organisation is new and with a currently small but growing membership.
Two more potentially placed- FREE of any charges to anyone.

Try the Lord Burnham and Viscount Portman estates, both of which border Beaconsfield/Hedgerley.
