Dear Downsizer members,

My partner and I run https://www.gofarmer.com which is a website specifically designed for farmers, smallholders and rural businesses to allow you to trade livestock, farm machinery, list produce for sale, rural crafts, farm shops, farm B&B's, find rural services and more.

We are currently looking to increase our membership (currently have 450 members and would like to get up to 1000 my Christmas!) and are therefore offering free memberships to certain groups.

As it stands it is free to register as a buyer and browse through the adverts listed and enter the members area and forum, but to sell any products, it is 45 for the year to list as much as you like. We are currently giving away these seller memberships for free.

If you have livestock, farm machinery, B&B, sell produce etc and feel you could make use of the site, please visit https://www.gofarmer.com and click on 'register'. Sign up as a buyer for free and then email me at [email protected] with your name and email address you signed up with and I will upgrade you to seller for free for a year. There is no commitment. We hope you enjoy using the site and find it useful.

Any questions let me know. We are promoting the site at the Thame & Oxon show on Thursday and then Newbury show at the weekend if anyone wants to pop along and see us.

I see on the site:

Quote:

Average of 13,000 to 26,000 hits a month with 4000 to 8000 unique visitors

and I was wondering how you are planning to get more visitors. To put these figures in perspective, downsizer got:

4,320,362 hits in August and a small shop I maintain got 186,000 hits for the month.

Obviously we all have to start somewhere, but since you generally charge for the service it is important people know what sort of exposure they are likely to get.

That's why I keep pushing people to advertise, we're getting to be a pretty serious site and helping small scale businesses is core to what we want to achieve.

And certainly for traders to realise the potential of the free advertising!

I think that some people have just not cottoned on to the potential yet.

It ceratainly works well- I'll vouch for that

Though I think the trading section needs someone with a good idea to give it a kick start, both in terms of traders & visitors.

Until that happens you're stuck with me. I've just started looking at that section, hence recent posts in the trading post forum.

Please post up any comments, good or bad.

In my experience, I've found that the Trading Post section of the forum sells more than the main site.

I took up gofarmers kind offer and joined up to gofarmer, but have not heard anything about upgrading from a buyer to a seller.

Has anyone else?

Is that not one order from anyone or not one order via downsizer?
