I didn't go the workshop, my car broke down (again) so I couldn't get there. Was a shame as I'd done a lot of preparation for it. The next ones are scheduled for March so I've some time off.

Gives you a bit more time for swotting. The maths in the 17th Ed can be a bit bonkers. Is it just me or is the 17th Ed regs written like some kind of arcane tome? I've done the course, used it loads, but its still a shock each time you open it . And trying to find anything in it. You'll spot all the good sparkies as their copies are plastered with post it notes so they can find stuff quick

We were advised to do just that - put posties all over the place to guide you to where stuff is. You can see why it�s useful but also that it will no doubt inevitably grow in size.

Well after another session up at Newcastle I am now a proper electrician

That's 11 exams passed so far. The last one (the 17th Edition regs) was a 2-hour 60 question slog - I answered the last question with literally 2 seconds to go.
I can now apply to one of the 'regulatory bodies' and start advertising for work.
Still have some more workshops/exams to pass but these are extras, I've got the key qualifications now.
I've got a webste to build as well and some leaflets to design - then it's time to get out and start earning...

Welcome to the world of the self-employed tradesmen.
If you can handle erratic earnings, want to work hours to suit yourself and enjoy lots of tea and cake, you'll love it.
Word of mouth is where it's at, but appreciate you need to get your name out there first. Cards, leaflets and recommendation will get you more work than a website.

If I need a tradesman, I always ask in the pub. Perhaps you need to spend time there.

Then go for an Indian - I picked up a little job the other week whilst I was having one.

Thanks for the tips. Looks like i'll be spending a lot of evenings out then. Trouble is my little town of Otley has 20 pubs and 5 Indians (and Bradford is only 30 minutes away)
