ï¿½240 is a lot more than I paid for quickbooks, and I've used it for multiple years, the Freeagent price is per annum. If I were to change it every four years it would cost 10 times the price. It must be significantly better to justify that kind of outlay.

The price disparity between similar functionality isn't really an issue when you compare like for like.

The link only showed one option, which for me was ï¿½20 per month, so I can only compare it on that basis. It may well be worth the money for what it does but it's a waste if you don't need 90% of it.

That's true of most things. I wasn't being specific about end use or user needs.

If you want something for nothing, Adminsoft doesn't seem bad. I've had a play around with it and it seems to work pretty well. You can pay to remove the advertising if you want, but it's not intrusive. https://www.adminsoftware.biz

It has lots of features, including payroll with RTI, but you can run it in a simplified mode. Of course I haven't tried that, given my background! I'm not sure if I'll be using it yet. I'll admit I found it a bit annoying, as I was trying to customise it, and some of the complex features needed quite a bit of setting up to work properly, but that shouldn't bother anyone who didn't run an accounting services business for years, was a Sage dealer, and did all sorts of things with Sage that Sage themselves didn't think could be done

We gave up with Quickbooks and use Sage now. You can customise it fairly well, and while I don't understand it properly, you can use it on all sorts of levels. I use it at the simplest level, so if the business expands, we ever get someone who understands these things, or whatever, it is there. It also has the advantage that the accountant uses it, so it makes it simpler for them to check the books.

I do indeed use Quickbooks. I've found it a delight to use. Setting up VAT in the first instance is a bit of a pain, but a doddle to use thereafter. I know VP and EV had a nasty incident with VAT miscalculation, but thus far it has worked a dream for me. A.
