No, not the wife! We've got a little Chi girl who is pregnant and has been refusing to eat for the past 3 days. We've tried raw meat, tinned dog food, puppy biscuits, scrambled egg, lactol, fish and cooked chicken breast which she will take very little of. Any ideas anyone? She's Daddy's Little Treasure and I'm worried about both her and the pups.

I'd be inclined to get to the vet with her just to be sure that all is well. Has she previously had a litter or is this her first?

This is her first litter. She's about half way through. We know that she's re-absorbing a pup so i'm wondering if perhaps she's drawing nourishment from that. Otherwise she's in good health. It can't be much fun having 16 or more little paws sticking in you!

She's been scanned dpack. That's how we know about the pup being re-absorbed. She actually ate some raw beef minced very very fine a little while ago and has been in her favourite place -perched on my shoulder licking my face so she seems to be ok. I think she's just being sniffy but if she's still off her food in the morning I'll have her to the vet's though I've little faith in anyone that tries to talk you into having a bitch spayed for no better reason than it being a nice little earner. Wish we still had our old vet!

hope all is well ,if the scan showed 1 gone and everything else ok paws crossed for a good result .

using ones nose can be educational to detect if there is a serious problem.

as to tempting snacks i recon a menu of chicken,carrot,rawhide,crunchy dog nuggets etc as options will provide something that appeals .

choice is probably more important than perfect

raw carrot is a bit of a wild card but tis popular with my beasts

Cheers dpack! We raw feed our dogs so things like carrot, peas, apple, blueberries and spinach are all part of their diet as well as the raw meat and plenty of bones. Needless to say our furniture always has plenty throws on it!! At the moment though Amber won't touch them. I'm going to get some crab sticks later to see if she'll have them -all the dogs go mad for them usually so they are a great training treat too!

Hope all goes well with Amber. I'm sure you will be aware that tiny dogs can go downhill very quickly - my daughter has two Toy Poodles one of which was very poorly a few years ago. Her speed of decline was dramatic - fortunately she pulled through but she was very dehydrated and, being a skinny little thing at the best of times, she had very little in reserve. A decent vet is always useful. Hers wasn't.

Amber seems to be settling down a bit now. We had her upstairs with us last night. She slept all night on her back with her head on my pillow and her nose stuck in my ear! She didn't move until his morning. Rosie wasn't too keen at first -she's a tiny 13 year old white toy poodle who always sleeps on our bed because of arthritis but settled down eventually.
I don't know how two such small dogs can take up so much room! It's going to get silly when Orla, the other pregnant Chi decides she wants to be with us too -she's not so much like a brick as a breeze block. We've no problems getting her to eat!

They should be very tempting Chi pups are fantastic little people! They're a bit like buses, you don't have a litter for ages then two come along at once. Orla is expecting 6 or possibly 7 and Amber 4 the following week. We've actually had several enquiries for Amber's already as both parents are from good show lines. We'll be overdosing on puppy breath though!!
She's eating better now and polished off one of the village butchers best farmhouse sausages this morning.

A quick update. Orla, the first of the mums had 7 beautiful puppies yesterday, 1 more than we were expecting. It took her under 2 hours for the lot with the last 2 coming lterally at once!
