‘Y’all ready for this?’ Can Britain resist America’s fast food giants?
Popeyes, a fried chicken restaurant ... within a decade, the brand hopes to have 350 branches in the UK ... Wendy’s ... aims to have 35 UK branches by the end of 2022. Rival burger giant Carl’s Jr also has plans to enter the UK market. Taco Bell ... has opened 115 outlets across the country since opening an Essex branch in 2010. Then there is Wingstop, with its spicy chicken wings ... plans to open 100 UK restaurants, naming the country as a “high-chicken consumption market”.
I don't know whether "y'all" are ready. The nutritional information in the second half of the story suggests your body probably isn't ready for the onslaught of a single meal. And the river Wye and other catchment areas containing chicken factory units certainly are not. Something to read with your fried chicken take-away:
‘It's like pea soup’: poultry farms turn Wye into wildlife death trap (Guardian, June 2020).
River pollution leads to Welsh demand for halt to intensive chicken farms (Guardian, Oct. 2020).
Welsh council admits it should not have approved vast poultry farm (Guardian, Jan. 2021).
Factory farming is turning this beautiful British river into an open sewer (Guardian, June 2022).
How a Tesco chicken deal may have helped pollute one of the UK’s favourite rivers (Guardian, July 2022).
Hail Mary! Statue’s trip down the Wye raises chicken pollution issue (Guardian, Aug. 2022).
Chicken farm giant linked to River Wye decline was sued over water blight in US (Guardian, Sept. 2022).
Chicken farms may explain decline of the River Wye, tests suggest (Guardian, Oct. 2022). |

plenty of
spin in the media
new pathogen, show me your genome
the data that was excluded or not looked for is relevant to the credibility of the conclusions
Quote: |
we looked for A B C etc, it might not have been those
we found no evidence of P, so it wasn't that, but we only looked where we knew there was none
it is most likely it is little bugs we have never encountered before |
flawed does not begin to cover the methodology
reject for publication
COI, reject
we still do not know for certain the cause/s of this mass die off, but the prima face evidence suggest further study will draw very different conclusions to this rather desperate smoke and mirrors whitewash "report"
the smoke and mirrors approach to framing the structure of the methodology and conclusions was ideal for denial and subsequent confusion suggests there is something to hide
the business aspect of the tees freeport is a delight of cronyism and kleptocracy, it includes senior torykippers and their cronies among its pirate crew, there are much bigger fish offshore, but they stay away from the local waters as they are unhealthy
private eye has done some good work on the business aspects, but there seems to be more that needs finding |
