I haven't knitted for ages. Perhaps we need a challenge!
What would be a good project to resurrect my rusty knitting skills?

Goxhill's Christmas stocking was really simple but you're probably too good for that (plenty of time to do it for Christmas though if you know someone who would like it).

There are some fun projects on Knitty but too hard for me.

I have had a quick masterclass with TD's mum yesterday and will be making up my stocking and a hat this week, and then I'm considering what to do next. So any ideas will be welcome here too

I have three projects on the go depending on which bit I am on, and who I am talking with at Swimming, where I knit while waiting for children.

Socks, a scarf in the fancy wool, and a teapot cosie, inspired by Sarah.

As long as you can do plain and purl, count, cast on and off you should be able to do anything.

I'd be up for a knitting challenge for the winter months I had a look in my local knitting shop a few weeks ago to scout for patterns and *shudders* I don't think they've changed them since the eighties which is actually when I last did any serious amount of knitting...and then it was mostly blankets for oxfam, I've never done a lot of complicated stuff, though I did have an attractive royal blue and red batwing jumper with crazy lightning design...

I did one back in the 80s that sounds very similar - mine was light and dark blue. The sleeves were so voluminous that I couldn't wear it under a coat!

I really fancy doing socks, but the ones on Knitty sound so complicated - I don't know if it's because I don't think in 3D very well. Perhaps Goxhill's stocking would be a good place to start.

I'm frantically knitting socks at the moment for midwinter presents. I'm largely using this pattern https://www.knittingnow.com/patterns/pattern_56StitchSock.asp which is perfectly straightforwards and is turning out decent socks. I just alter the length of the top or the foot according to who I'm making it for. Also knitting a scarf for mum in my lunchbreak, and have been experimenting with late medieval/tudor style knitted caps as well

I was just going to say that I fancy doing some socks but looking at that pattern - it sounds a bit complicated for me

I have done jumpers before but like many here - I am talking purple and cream mohair batwing jumper in the 80s

If you can do the basic stitches it is just a matter of reading the pattern one instructiona t a time .

Socks are really easy once you get into it and there is some lovely patterend wool aroung for sock these days

Agree, socks are lots easier than they look. If you havent knitted in teh round on 4 needles before, its really not hard, and I like not having to switch between plain and purl rows

I've just had a rootle back in some old posts. Sugarplumhalle posted a link to this brilliant (but still rather scary-looking) demo a while back:

https://www.royea.net/sockdemo1.html

Whaddya think? Are we up for a sock challenge?

Good plan! I know I'm knitting socks anyway but could be fun to do a specific pair

What sort of wool do you recommend, Sally? The link you posted doesn't say whether it is DK, chunky or whatever.

Socks challenge sounds great to me, although I think it had better be a spectator sport for me...have already nearly blinded my beloved a few times with two needles, imagine the carnage if I was let loose with eight points

Can we call it the Good Socks Guide?
