a day with a knackerman

i have a lot of respect for good uns like this chap, technical, kindly to the beasts and with the social skills to comfort the "bereaved" if necessary

mr death who works not far from here is rather like the chap in the article and having seen him deal with a sick pig and a couple of upset folk(dark humour was perfect "did i shoot the right one? "- one pig one pen, 4 apples etc and helped us when losing a chum)

Yes, I found it interesting too. It surprises me that farmers are not regarded with respect according to the article. Perhaps because I was brought up on the edge of suburbia, I have always been aware of farmers and was brought up to respect them and their land and stock. We have found. since we have been working the wood, that some people regard us as 'just contractors or outdoor workers' and seem to have no respect for us. I am afraid it gives me a very low regard for them.
