We've just got our old cold frame back from my MIL (FIL, now deceased had more use for it than us when we were in our old house). Anyhoo, by luck rather than judgement it's exactly the right size to sit across our widest raised bed (if it ever stops raining long enough to fill it). Is there anything wrong with my cunning plan to use it a giant cloche/tiny greenhouse? So, for example, get some sweetcorn going under it, then move it onto the next bit of bed and start something else under it?

Sounds like an excellent plan to me.

Not in priciple but 'd still be tempted to use it to start stuff off in pots (greater variety and density) that can be planted out and then use it as cover on some established crops at the end of the season to prolong and protect them.

If it's glass just be careful walking up the edge of the bed---tend to slip more than round a greenhouse or permanent cold frame---we had an interesting spurting artery as a result of glass cloches on our allotments last year---all was well---but not if he'd been on his own perhaps

It is glass, but I'm thinking of replacing it with polycarbonate or perspex or summat in the interests of small child (and clumsy parents) safety.

Good move---used to worry about mine near the greenhouses---daft really not had a kid hurt on the plots---it's the adults I keep a first aid kit for.
