I installed Firefox on my laptop yesterday (because I always do what Tahir tells me ). It works fine, but the laptop is now being arsey(for want of a better word) about actually letting me go on line. It always gets there in the end, but I have to keep fiddling with the connection settings. Has anyone got any bright ideas, or are the two things unrelated?
It's an IBM thinkpad 600E, running Windows 98, and we're on BT yahoo broadband.
Cheers, Sean

afaik the items should be unrelated. Firefox seems to have none of those annoying options for farting about with the connection status.

Ta, at least that's one possibility eliminated.

Yup IE always used to mess around for me, kept looking for a proxy server that we took off the network 2 years ago, despite a complete rebuild it still thinks it should go through the proxy.

Out of interest, Sean, are you running 98 or 98SE?

Select the properties of 'My Computer' and in the general tab it should say MS Windows 98 if it's 98. I run plain 98 and I also get a date 0f 4.10.1998; I assume 98SE would say SE and have a later date.

I only ask as 98 has a more basic comms setup than 98SE and after a week or so I gave up trying to use an ADSL modem and went the router route. I'm interested to know if you have managed to get 98 to work.

I think it's second edition on the PC and straight on the laptop. Both seem to be working now, but since I acheived this by my normal random clicking on things which looked vaguely promising I can't offer any helpful hints to anyone.

I know what you mean, my laptop wouldn't work the other day. I turned it upside down and gave it a good shake and it's worked fine since.

I'm sure I would make a good father...

(I am joking by the way...)
