Corn smut, according to Roger's Mushrooms, is edible. It looks awful https://www.rogersmushrooms.com/gallery/DisplayBlock~bid~6937.asp Not sure this is really foraging unless you happen to have a wild corn field at the end of your garden...but still, thought it was interesting, if bizarre.

we had this ruin an entire crop of sweetcorn one year, we were devestated i only found out a few years ago that it's considered a delicacy in mexico , i believe it may have a slight hallucengenic affect but don't quote me on that!

Ugh - I often wonder about the definition of 'edible' I expect there are lots of things that won't kill you, but that doesn't make them pleasant to eat!
