Please can someone help? I need to move 64 stitches off to a needle while I work of the other 64 stitches. Do I just slide them off the needle on to another needle? Or is there a fancy way I need to be doing it? Thanks

Just pick them up with the needle that will be holding them. Are you using a stitch holder? If not, make sure you have a way of ensuring that they don't fall off: a rubber band wrapped round several times should do it. What are you making now?

Thanks Mochyn. I'm using a DPN so I will use a rubber band at each end. Well I did start on a scarf for Mrs C for Christmas but noticed it was on the wrong sixe needles. So now I'm making a, no sew tea cosy.

I usually put the stiches I want to hold onto a bit of different coloured wool and tie the ends together. Then pick the stitches up onto a needle again when I want them. Stick holders are easier though, if you can find the blooming things from where you put them away 'safely'.

That's generally what I do.
I recall my Mum used to put them on what I call a 'kilt pin'.
Wonder what happened to them.

Mistress, how easy is it to get on to another bit of wool? From a working with it point of view, to me sounds easier than having another needle in your way, but thinking about getting them on and off again doesn't sound easy. EV, my MIL gave me a kilt pin, I was never sure what it was for but I don't think it will hold the 64 stitches I need to move off.

It is if you use a a daring needle to slip the stitches off onto ...and then in reverse you just pick the stitches off from the wool lifeline

If you use thicker wool than you are knitting with, the stitches will tighten less, and be easier to get back onto a needle later.
Good idea to use a brightly contrasting colour so you can see what's what ! (btdt)
