I suppose it could be a Russian hack to disrupt the EPC/Zelenskiy meetings, but BSOD feels very back to the oughties...

If you go to el reg, they have detailed account of issue and also a fix.
Its a barfed file update by crowdstrike, not hackers.

To fix, basically (with admin rightss) delete C

-00000291*.sys

and your good. (Though will need to be in safe mode)

Complications will be that most corporate systems use bitlocker, so carrying out fix is a bit more complicated.

Though without knowing full details, you wonder why tgis wasnt tested before a global update pushed out.

But if you dont use crowdstrike you will not be affected.

It's scary really, an entire world vulnerable dues to the inherent crappiness of an operating system that was badly designed in 1982 or thereabouts.

That's why I don't trust computers and am concerned that so much relies on them now. Everything went down because someone made an error. On paper, it takes longer, but at least it is there.

So if the OS is bad, why do they not go back to the beginning and design from scratch...
