Well just move it and they'll either not notice for three years, or suddenly notice and be forced to pull their finger out, giving you the opportunity to complaian to your councillor about inefficency etc.

They're a bit stuck up round there, very middle class, I reckon they'd be straight onto it. Wonder if it's worth talking to the parish council?

Good idea - get local support - tell them what you're upto, offering as an alternative, show 'em your good intentions and then when the council finmally turn up there should be few if any objections, no surprises etc.

Found the relevant bod at Essex County Council, there's a 3 year backlog in dealing with footpath re-routes

I'd agree with Behemoth as to the importance of canvassing local support and identifying/pacifying/winning over any local opposition in advance.

I expect that the Council bod would be the very chap to tell you what you have to do to make *his* life easy, and his involvement as much as possible a "rubber stamp" exercise.
I'd also suggest that it might be massively more helpful to complain about his department being "under-resourced" than to suggest that they were "inefficient". There's no point in looking for enemies... Especially among those whose decisions affect you directly...

With your connections you should be able to get discounts on viyella shirts, corduroy trousers and Barbour jackets so it'll be easy.

Do you know if the footpath is often used? Several places we visit and we never see people use them (which is nice).

Does this also mean you don't have to pay council tax for 3 years as you have your own backlog?

Well I've never seen anyone use it but the path is well worn, bare ground through a field, and there's dog poo here and there.

Ah! A health hazard. It should be shut immediatly on grounds of risk of what might happen.

Of course I would never suggset that you should say the officer was ineffficient, heaven forbid he's not doing his job and loitering on an internet forum, who would think of such a thing.

Obviously you have to talke about structural inefficiencies and procedures imposed on the council through overbearing regulation and governemnt red tape coupled with resource issues caused by the competing demands of deparmental budgets for limited resources who are dealing with an increasingly consumer oprientated service delivery ethos in an dynamic virtual market environment.

Round here there is a local footpaths group which is basically a group of volunteers who meet once a quarter to discuss any issues realting to public footpaths and also undertke basic maintenace work to styles etc...

There is a representative from the parish council on the committee but it is a community group rather than parish council led

Maybe there is one around you
