Just a single one Which is practically a first round here. Maybe the new years resolution of reducing waste is getting somewhere jema

That's really impressive for a family of four.

We're mostly half a bag each week; it would be less if we could sort out something to do with the plastic containers, but everything I've tried so far has been just too much trouble; we've already got a corner of the kitchen stuffed with glass and tins, and paper recycling to fall over in the hall.

Also if we sort out a wormery we could do something with the potato peelings and other cooked food, perhaps. And am interested in these green cones that allegedly cope with everything.

Per person I think - easy enough to work out for most people? Even little tiny children produce a lot of rubbish so it's reasonable to include all household members...it'll all even out...and it's just a bit of fun

i was always intrigued by John Seymour's quote that you should use everything and the dustman need never call. I'd like to work towards that if possible.

t'aint never gonna happen here! I can see the future involves going through the bin to find out just what himself is filling it up with. It must be him, it's not me!

I thought this before I was single! There is defo less now, but I still fill the bin up with junk from the garage

I just ordered a green bin today, �30 I could ill afford but well worth it to get rid of all the straggly contents of the garden

Even with fortnightly collections my wheelie bin has barely enough rubbish in to cover its base. My recycle box I only put out monthly and then its usually less than half full.
My secret is that I try not to buy packaged goods, preferring to buy loose, or on rare occasions in a plastic bag. I also still have my milk delivered in glass bottles by the milkman so don't collect plastic containers.
I must admit to residing on my own but with a little effort and forethought you can cut down on waste considerably.

Nah, now we have a small person who fills the bin with her own weight of stuff daily. Mind you, she will happily empty it for you too, given half a chance!

And I still have two and half rooms of doom.

I realised this morning that today should have been bin day. I queried OH as to whether the bin had gone out or if it was too late - got the reply "no need to bother - there is only 6" in the bottom of each bin". Not bad for a fortnightly collection for each type.
