I saw this the other day - seems to work:

Quote:
I've tried this and it seems to work.

1. Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows: (by double clicking them)

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.

In fact incredible tip, Firefox is working many times faster. Bizarre that you have to go to such odd lengths

Neil, I followed all that advise, thanks. I still can't get these sites loaded though, on firefox or IE.

Any other suggestions.

Well over the last couple of days I've finally been converted to Firefox - love tabbed browsing - especially being able to open all my favourites on one click

I've converted to Thunderbird as well for my e-mail client - the only thing thats bugging me now is that I did use Outlook for all my calendar stuff and now I've lost that functionality - pity

Yes I know I've got 2 diaries and 3 calendars but it was nice to have another reminder every time I opened my email client

The way these things go I'm sure someone will come up with a calendar extension soon, I love Thunderbird, it makes more sense (and is more functional) than Outlook Express

Well Tahir you were right - I've managed to find a calendar component for both Thunderbird and Firefox - apparently there is a seperate project to tightly couple the calendar with Thunderbird a la Outlook but this will work fine for me for now

You can download it at https://www.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/

And you can share your calendar online too

Quote:
To share your calendars, you need access to a webDAV server. If you run your own web server, you can install mod_dav, a free Apache module that will turn your web server into a webDAV server. Instructions on how to set it up are on their website. Once you set up your webDAV server, you can publish your calendar to the site, then subscribe to it from any other Mozilla Calendar. Automatically updating the calendar will give you a poor man's calendar server.
