And wandering thoroughly off topic, there must be "get ready for the end of the world" types in the UK, but they don't seem to be part of popular culture. As in I am aware of that sort of behaviour from people in the US, including the really serious ones with guns up in the hills, but not really in the UK. Presumably it happens.
As in end of the worlders seem to pop up in US crime drama as characters, but not in UK crime drama.
Or is it the same as hippies?
Or am I just not realising that is how Downsizers would be categorised in the US?
Oh and wandering even more off topic, there was an episode of "Have I Got News for You" a while back where they looked at the Sun (I think it was) Newspaper headline that the Queen ate her breakfast cereal out of tupperware.
And one of the panel said, "Eating out of tupperware, marrying your cousin, in the US you call them trailer trash."

Mainly they believe that our government will fail at one point, and they will need to be self sufficient. TEOTWAWKI - The End Of The World As We Know It. Or a SHF - Sh*t Hits the Fan scenerio. |
Not really sure we have folks like that in the UK, or not ones who advertise anyway - anyone in the UK run into folks like that?
That said, I'm not entirely convinced that the government won't fail, but there always seems to be something coming along so that the country continues to lurch onwards. Not entirely sure the government can be given credit, I often think it is because (nearly) everybody continues to do their jobs that it all works.

I do not consider myself a prepper, although, I do many of the same activities that they do, as trying to be as self sufficient as possible. |

I think many downsizers would be considered as I consider myself, a homesteader. Just trying to make a go of it to be self reliant. |
Good. |
