Hi I have 3 kune kunes a sow (Ruby) aged about 17 weeks old and 2 boars one about a year (Reg)and the other about 13 weeks,(Jet) at the moment the 2 young ones are together and poor reg is all alone I would like to put them all in together and possibly get an older sow as well, can anyone with any experience enlighten me as to whether its OK to have 2 boars living together or not.

My only experience has been with boars intended for the dinner table. Although definitely well past puberty they got on very well together, but then there were no girlies around. I could envisage problems when the sows come on heat, so you would probably need a secure area for the sows at that time.

Kiwi Are the boars full boars or castrates? If full boars you could have a problem, particularly when your gilt starts to brim (season) as Judith says. They could also fight just being together, if they are full boars. Interesting that you are in NZ and visiting this UK site. We've got two boars together & they do fight a bit, but then so do the sows. They seem to manage OK when heats come round & maybe they draw straws, but they don't seem to fight over the ladies. I suppose it depends largely on the temperament of the animals- they do say that a younger boar will live better with an older one than it would with another boar of similar age.

we have several bores here at work and find the best thing to do with them is to gove them an office on their own so they can bore themselves to death and stay out of the way of the rest of us.... that and avoiding them in the lunch queue has been found to be the best way to deal with them

We have a Kune Kune called Ruby too :) <---- bit of a mix though. Our two females fight quite a lot, maybe its just a matter of finding who's boss, and then they might get settled, unless theres no pecking order in the piggy world. You could give em the snip to get some chilled porkies.

My ex is called Reg and he's a right boar! should have had him castrated too.... I'm not bitter! honest
