Well, Bugs and I are just back from a great weekend with some more friendly and knowledgeable Downsizers down in Pricey's neck of the woods, or rather edge of the cliffs.

Both Bugs and I have never been hunting before and had lots to learn. With guidance I've had a good introduction to ferreting and learned to catch rabbits, dispatch and paunch them (special thanks to Bunnykiller and Sparky). We had a fantastic lunch today of freshly caught rabbit and I've half a dozen sitting at home ready to be skinned and prepared for the freezer.

Unfortunately the rabbits were a little too quick for me to shoot any (plus I'm sure they wear bullet proof vests) but I think we preferred the ferreting so still had a great time.

All I need now is a dozen recipes for rabbit. Overall a great weekend and now we've met Penny & Steve and Whitelegg1 as well.

Confit the rabbit legs, it's really, really good.

JB - please could you send Sean your rabbit leg confit recipe so we can add it to our forthcoming article ? That would be really good. Cheers.

The rabbits we caught have a decent bit of fat on them and two removeable strips inside the cavity. Could this fat be used to make a confit or would it be too strong?

It was a really good weekend in many ways and I've learned a lot. I was a bit concerned that I'd find it a bit distressing when it came to it (hence knitting and a new, long book tucked away in my bag!) but everyone was so professional and just generally decent that I was very glad to have had the chance to see and learn so much from such nice people, and really good to meet everyone!

Thanks especially to Pricey not just for organising it, but for all the explanations and advice, taking good care of us all, and loan of the trousers , and here's sentence-least-likely-to-be-said-by-a-vegetarian, thanks to Bunnykiller and pals for the patience and help! And last but not least I got to hold my first ferret

I don't think it will be anywhere near enough, you will need to obtain enough goose fat to cover them when rendered, save it for cooking with the saddle/meat to help keep it moist.

I was give the green and blacks chocolate cook book as a belated christmas present on the weekend and it had an interesting tuscan sweet and sour hare recipe in it which if i recall would work well with rabbit too I can post it when I get home it you like

Looks good to me - TD tells me (he's eating home made pizza at the moment in a break from skinning rabbits, and yes, he's remembered the rabbit puppet ) that he doesn't mind after all if you want to leave him in the pics, if it's easier for you.

The same doesn't go for me...but if I appear unexpectedly I'll edit 'em for you

Funny that I was doing Rabbit puppets today, the kids were loving it. Have already doctored some pics will do this one( comp winner) that Penny took
